The large English framework for bilingual dictionaries was a hugely ambitious project that I started working on as a freelance editor, then later took over and managed for several years.
The aim was to create the English half of a bilingual dictionary in such a way that it could be used to translate into any target language.
Not only that, but we wanted to create the largest bilingual English dictionary dataset available, with coverage not only of general English words but also of terminology used in specialist fields, as well as inclusion of archaic terms that might be encountered in classic English literature.
The first dictionary published using the framework was the Collins FLTRP English–Mandarin Chinese Dictionary.
